APL (Association of Pakistani Lawyers), a team of Pakistani origin lawyers, Solicitors, Barristers, and Judges in UK held an emergency session of its executive and termed recent escalation of tension between Bar and bench at Lahore a worrying development for the cause of rule of law and justice in Pakistan.

APL termed both incidents, an attack on Chief Justice’s chamber and a heavy handedness on lawyer’s march observed through media reports an unfortunate, condemnable and potentially dangerous development for Bench and Bar’s future relations, and urged that lawyers must protect and preserve what they gained since 9 March 2007. APL has urged the Bar leaders to come forward and mediate showing solidarity and commitment to those brave lawyers who are acting first line of defence to the judiciary in order to avert further escalation which will be devastating for the drive and efforts of rule of law in Pakistan.

APL has warned that those who were against the struggle from the start are coming to attack with a new face and a slogan and lawyer fraternity must jointly curb and defeat those elements with unity, faith and discipline.

APL has expressed their sympathies to those injured and has urged the Govt for a stern action against those outlawed who provoke and preach violence during minor lawyer and political gatherings.
