Independence judiciary is must to strengthen democracy: Justice Iftikhar

Justice IftikharLAHORE: Predicting the success of the lawyers struggle launched for the reinstatement of the deposed judges very soon, the deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that independent judiciary is must for strengthening democracy.

The judiciary can protect and safeguard the rights of people as the constitution and law of the land, he said while addressing the lawyers’ convention here, which concluded on early Thursday.

“The dispensing of justice and protection of the rights of the people is impossible without the independence of judiciary,” he said.

Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry lauded the role of media for the success of lawyers’ struggle.

The media and lawyers faced tough time and difficulties in the way of the struggle for the reinstatement of the deposed judges, which has awakened the entire nation, he said.
