LAHORE: For the first time in the country’s history, the Lahore High Court has allowed a 32-yeard-old person to change his gender from male to female through an operation.

Sami Salim, a resident of Rawalpindi, had filed an application in the LHC through his lawyer Muhammad Shams for change of sex.

In his application, he requested the court to grant him permission for gender change through surgery.

It said the applicant had been suffering from Gender Identity Disorder and his treatment was only possible through surgery.

The lawyer told the court that experts were available for this kind of operation. But they were not ready to perform the surgery due to legal and social complications.

The court asked for reports from Federal Health Secretary and Health Department of Punjab. After listening to the point of views of the officials, the court allowed the applicant to undergo surgery for his gender change.

i think we being muslim should not allow this kind of trend. Allah made us in the best way he thought we should be. how can we say that there is a mistake (mazallah) while my creation. this is just a human limited thinking. in my opinion we should go with what Allah give us and we should give the respect also to what we received from Allah. we should treat it psychologically not physically. this is my thinking that may be i should be a female rather than a male. but what if after sometime i would think that no i should be a male instead of a female. so human knowledge is limited and we should not try to deny Allah’s will. after sometime people will demand same sex marriage. what next? so please let the society grow naturally. and let the people be as they are created by Allah. dont try to modify or change the identity of a human. please send this person to a psychatrist instead of a physician. i know a Hadeeth that he who will start a new trend which is not acceptable by islam will be responsible for this all and will get the share of Gunnah for each attempt. please oppose this and guide people why we are opposing this.

I totaly support the LHC decision because this decision may have been taken after complete medical checkup and keeping in view all the laws of the country and the religious facts. Every person has his/her own life and he/she will be responsible for his deeds after death. We have seen some cases in our country where gender started to change automatically. What would one say on such cases? what religion says on these cases? What should that patient do? can anyone answer these questions? Therefore, we need to understand our religion and the situation first rather criticising others.

As far as the GID is concerned, this is a verified disease (not a mental illness) and every disease has a cure, so change of sex is the only cure for this disease. A lot of matter is available on this subject and anyone can read about this.
