to ahmed bilal
dear mr. bilal sb,i guess you don’t know how to search????? you are commenting on a social website while your information is absolutely wrong. what do you think? we all pakistani’s, all muslims from all over the world, our media is protesting against a thing that is not practically present???? thanks for your non-asked advise in your comment. but we not only spend a minute in finding that ridiculous website but spend hundreds of hours in reporting that page/event, in spreading this new, in protesting against these events.
You are requested that in future while making such comments, check properly that are you well aware of the news or not.

Iqra May 20, 2010 at 10:24 am

the best way is to act professional when addressing such an issue…the kafir use anger and aggression as the muslim’s weakpoint and address it as violence….quitting facebook is the best thing to begin with…
they are causing us pain…our religion shouldn’t be abused for their “freedom of speech”…
we are not going to sit and let them have their way!!

khan May 20, 2010 at 10:27 am

FB should be banned in all muslim countries, i know it sounds difficult at the moment as we are addicted to it but we owe this much…. its time muslims all over the world join hands and raise their voice…………we are not against non muslims,, they live like kings in Pakistan. ITs just we never insult anyones religion then why are we being insulted…..

M.AhsanRashid May 20, 2010 at 10:59 am

Fash May 20, 2010 at 11:40 am

I completely disagree to the ban imposed by Pakistan government. I mean where are your guts to face and challenge the things? Why is it always in Pakistan that if you need to call off anything you just close down shutters and hide yourself inside the closet? Grow-up people make your actions known for wisdom not for hate. If Pakistan government is really serious about this issue why not take it to international courts why its acting like a three year old? by the way i am a Pakistani and a Muslim and I do feel really bad about whats going on but why are we taken away our rights to choose, people who don’t want to use they may not but who want to use what about them?

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION..

May 20th is the day many people have decided to draw hate. Draw hate against others, draw hate against themselves and draw hate throughout the world. After all, what can one achieve by drawing a caricature of someone who is dead and not here to defend himself in the first place and held in the most highest esteem by more than a billion people? Nothing but hate. Hate begets nothing but more hatred.

Let’s look at an example here. Imagine someone who loves his mother dearly. That mother nurtured, raised and sacrificed her entire life for this person. Then one day, the mother dies. The person is grief stricken. He has lost the one person whom he loved most dearly. I walk up to him and say, “Yo man, I wanna draw your mother. Call it my deep artistic soul, it wants to express itself by drawing your mother. But I can only express my art by showing her being sodomized by a donkey.” The man will either be upset and cry or become angry. “Stop. Don’t draw my mother, please. I don’t want you drawing my mother.” Then I go, “Hey hey hey, man. I have to. It’s the artist in me wanting to draw your mother having sex with a donkey. It’s the only way I express myself. You dig?”

Then he pleads with me, “please. Why my mother? She is dead…You gain nothing by drawing her” I would reply, ‘Coz I gotta bro…It’s my freedom of expression.”

After I draw his mother being sodomized by the donkey, I show it to him. He refuses to see it. I say, “Hey man, this is art. You must see it and either like it or be quiet. ‘Coz if you shout and holler, it means you don’t understand art.”

Being able to do something and doing it because you can doesn’t make everything right. Doing something just because you can is not an excuse to do something which leaves the boundary of decency and transgresses against someone’s beliefs. There is no harm against walking naked in Times Square, yet there are laws that prohibit this action. People with self-respect and dignity understand the difference between what could be done and what should be done. Those that don’t are simply people acting out their insecurity by doing things which go against the norms of civility and decency.

As far as art is concerned, there were thousands of cartoons created as propaganda against the Jews in WW2. Why are they not considered art? Why not come out with books which have these cartoons? Why not celebrate “Everybody Draw an Anti-Semitic Cartoon Day”? Answer is simple: You can’t. You don’t have the ‘freedom of expression’ when it comes to that. There are laws against it which will put you in jail. For even drawing a Swastika on a synagogue as a ‘freedom of expression’ will land you in jail. It is a crime. How many here want to take on this infringement upon freedom of expression? No one. ‘Coz no one wants to land in jail. But is there a law against drawing Mohammed? None. So let’s just do that. Right.

Where are knights of Freedom of Expression then? Why are they not fighting for their right to express anti-semitism? Why was Mel Gibson’s tirade considered a hate speech and not freedom of speech? Why was Michael Richards tirade against the blacks considered hate speech and not freedom of speech? Why is the word ‘Nigger’ so offensive to people that it is omitted and censored. Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer has been yanked from school curricula because it contained the word ‘nigger’. While we are at freedom of expression, why not hold a “Draw Slavery Cartoon Day”?

Yet, the only plausible reason for attacking Mohammed is not just Islamophobia, but coupled with no restrictions and hatred is simply to foster hatred against the Muslims. This whole day is not about Freedom of Expression. It is about Freedom to Hate. It is a day to draw hate, against ourselves, against others and to spread the message of hate around the world.

Speaking of around the world, two names come to mind. David Irving and Ernst Zundel. Both serving prison sentences for their act of ‘Freedom of Expression’. In the case of the former, he is a world renowned historian with more than a dozen books written about WW2. In fact, the judge who sentenced him to jail said, there are very few people in the world who compare to David Irving regarding knowledge and history about WW2.

Shouldn’t the people who are instigating and participating in this day be working to free these two gentlemen for their ‘artistic expressions’? Shouldn’t they be working to create an atmosphere of ‘freedom of expression’ by holding a “Holocaust Denial Day”? Answer is they can’t. They don’t have that freedom of expression. Their creativity and hands are stifled by the law which protects the ‘Unfreedom of Expression’. But hey, let’s draw Mohammed because we can. Because we have the freedom of expression to do it, so let’s do it. And in the process, piss off more than a billion people.

Like I said, it’s not about Freedom of Expression. This day should be named “Everybody Draw Hate Day”. As this day is nothing more than an excuse for the hatemongers to assemble and vent their hatred en masse.

I would like to add that it speaks volumes about the greatness of this man, who even after more than 1500 years, inspire such emotions in both believers and non-believers. Love in the hearts of believers and hatred in the hearts of disbelievers. This ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day’ has instilled in me an even deeper love and respect for this man. For he said, unbelievers will spare nothing to malign me. And I consider this “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” as a tribute to the truth in the words of this man.

One thing this event has done, it has united many Muslims together and unmasked the hatred glaring in the hearts of unbelievers. For in front of Muslims, they would exclaim how tolerant they are but once their back is turned, they unsheathe their daggers of hatred.

How nice it would have been if this day had been ‘Feed a Hungry Child Day’ or ‘Save Water Day’ or ‘Do a Kindness Day’. It would have brought the world closer, all religions and everybody. Too bad the organizers decided to make May 20th into a day of hatred. Shame on them and those who participate.
