ISLAMABAD: The medical board on Friday handed over medical report of Mumtaz Qadri, the assassin of Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer, to Kohsar police.
The report confirmed that no one had tortured him during investigation and the allegation levelled by Qadri’s lawyer that police tortured him proved wrong.
According to sources, A five members board, headed by Rawalpindi District Headquarters Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Sher Ali Khan, Dr Khalid Randhawa, Surgeon Dr Fazal Elahi, Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) Dr Arshad Iqbal, Dr Manzoor Saie and Irfan Khilji as its members, has handed over the report to Kohsar police, which stated that Qadri was physically and mentally fit.
They said a joint investigation team was investigating Qadri and those persons who were very close to him to find out whether there was a conspiracy behind the murder of governor. During investigation Qadri claimed that he did all that in individual capacity.
Officials of agencies, special branch and police have received the record of the cell phone of Qadri and his family members but could not find any suspected number, said the sources, adding, now the team is investigating the case on two line, whether Qadri did that individually or it was a well planned conspiracy.
They said investigation agencies were trying to search for Qadri’s link with any religious or political group, but so far they haven’t succeeded. During investigation police have reached to a conclusion that Qadri did all that in his individual capacity, but other investigation agencies are working on the direction that how a personnel was included in duty roster of governor’s squad on his request that he wanted to visit Islamabad, they added.
They said although federal police had reached to a conclusion that Qadri did all that in his individual capacity, it could not be ruled out that there was something unusual, as federal police did not deploy even a single personnel for the security of governor and violated security procedure without any strong reason.
