The party of former premier Nawaz Sharif Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) after detailed inquiry into the MPA, Shumaila Anjum Rana case has sought her resignation from the MPA, seat.
A two-member committee headed by Senator Pervez Rashid carried out inquiry into the Shumaila’s issue who was allegedly involved in stealing two credit cards from a woman, s purse and paying Rs 80,000 through the stolen cards for shopping. The MPA refused to accept the charges levelled against her and said that she would not quit the assembly membership sought a couple of days to make up her mind to come to any conclusion.
The committee termed the incident involving PML-N member Shumaila Rana as regrettable and said the final decision in this regard will be made in accordance with the law by Chief Minister today (Thursday).
Besides, Chief Minister’s Senior Advisor Zulfikar Khosa said legal action will be taken against MPA Shumaila Rana if she is found guilty.
Earlier, Ghalib Market Police on Sunday registered a theft case against the MPA on the complaint of Muqeet Salam, the brother-in-law of Zaira Malik of Canal Bank, owner of the credit cards. Muqeet alleged in the application that his sister-in-law, Zaira Malik’s cards were stolen from a fitness club on July 7 issued by the United Bank Limited and Bank Alfalah.
“Shumaila Rana presented only one argument in her defence that she had given the ‘pool money’ to her close friend, Sonia, who used it without her consent. When she (Shumaila) demanded the money back, Sonia provided her the credit cards and said in place of money she could use her credit cards,†the sources revealed.
The sources further said when the inquiry committee disclosed that the credit cards belonged to Zara Malik instead of Sonia, Shumaila replied that Zara Malik was sister of Sonia. However, she failed to prove it true during further cross-questioning, the sources maintained.
Media reports quoted PML-N chief in Punjab Sardar Khosa as saying the lawmaker would have to quit in accordance with the party’s decision.
