Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is concerned about the Grey Calling and termed it as a drain on the national resources in a recent advertisement in the Pakistani news papers. In this advertisement PTA is asking the citizens to identify all those companies or people who are involved in this business of Grey Calling. Grey calling use the proxy system to make International Calls at Local Rate.

But now if we seriously look at the situation who is actually aware of this Grey Calling? Yes all those who are actual beneficiary of this Grey Calling. Will they ever report to the PTA? I guess no. So what next? PTA should not waste national money in these expensive advertisement but should equip itself with better technology to identify such culprits. At the same time they should direct the approved telecom providers in the country to improve their services so that people will be left with no choice of poor quality Grey Calling.
If PTA staff want to search for Grey Calling Providers they should also learn to use Google Search Engine to find a lot of information about such providers via many social media.

What exactly is grey-calling? I call my family in Pak from the UK, mobile to mobile and they always ask me why each time I call, the number comes up as a local number and not my UK number.
