Newark (US): Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was detained at Newark airport for two hours. He was arrested after US immigration officials found his sirname Khan.

The actor was released after Indian embassy intervened into the matter. “He was detained because his surname is Khan. He was kept until officials from the Indian embassy intervened. Now he has been released,” Niloufer Qureshi, Shah Rukh’s manager

The King of Bollywood arrived at Newark Airport in United States to attend the Independence Day function here.

The security officials at Newark Airport interrogated SRK for two hours. The actor personally confirmed the detention news to media. He said that security officials didn’t allow him to use phone. “They wanted to know why I came to US,” SRK said.

The arrest was unfortunate as SRK is globally acclaimed celebrity. The Bollywood fraternity has slammed the USA for this behaviour.

Director Mahesh Bhatt said that SRK is a global icon and US authority should be fair on Shah Rukh Khan. Another actor Farookh Sheikh described the move as unfortunate.

Ironically, when Richard Gere arrived in India, he was given a red carpet welcome and while an Indian film personality was arrested during his trip to USA.

The incident occurred after the Shah Rukh Khan has inked deal with Fox Star Studio for marketing and distributions of Karan Johar’s next flick ‘My Name is Khan’.

SRK is the latest victim of frisking. The actor Irfan Khan was also detained at Los Angeles airport this year. Apart from this, a US airliner had also frisked former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in April.

Meanwhile, the Union Minister Ambika Soni has also criticised the frisking of Khan, saying frisking incidents from US is more then necessary.

Other Bollywood stars like Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan too are set to attend the event.

Cool Down Dude ! its a normal/Common procedure for all Airport. He also human, just a bolly-wood actor, don’t give more hype , Newark is not a part of India. They did their duty, suppose he would have hiding some explosive or drugs , if something happened who will answer ? Any one live with him ? Any one know his depth personal details. Will u take responsible for his all action ? He is not a our respect full scientist , leader, he is not part of our economical growth …

vijay,

He is not economy cow, but he is loved and honoured for what he does so lets not make new standards.
Public figures are made that way, there is no saying what other people did to win hearts of people, but if SRK is public figure let it be and respect it.
About security , yes it shouldn’t be hyped. whats wrong if a country wants to make sure that whosoever comes to them is clean and beyound suspicion, becasue in the past our so called bollywood singers and all have been taking people to other countries only to leave them there.
On the other hand if there is some discrimination attached to it that is another story all together.
If SRK is frisked its not a big deal and its not playing with anyone’s feelings, but if he is detained for no apparent reason, to Hell with them , he is a star Indian and they better count it right before acting stupid.

SRK is unanimously a star and he is loved by millions and in a democratic system that counts. So yes its bad he was detained for no apparent reason, though frisking is ok its part of procedure as has no special security clearing like diplomatic immunity.
