Supreme Court (SC) issued orders declaring the promotion of 54
bureaucrats as null and void and notification on these promotions has
been cancelled, Geo News reported Wednesday.

These 54 bureaucrats
are federal secretaries recently promoted to grade 22 by the Prime
Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on September 4, 2009.

The SC
directed the PM to again make appointments on these posts on merit.

It
should be mentioned that the promotion of at least 173 bureaucrats was
overlooked in making these 54 promotions.

The promoted federal
secretaries include the PM’s Principal Secretary Nargis Sethi, former
Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Mehmood, Secretary Election Commission
Ishtiaq Ahmed, Secretary Narcotics Tariq Khosa, Secretary Petroleum
Kamran Lashari, Home Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman CDA Imtiaz
Inayat, Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw’s Chief Secretary Javed Iqbal, Secretary
Ombudsman Sami Saeed, Chairman FBR Sohail Ahmed and Inspector General of
the Punjab Police, Tariq Saleem Dogar.

The PM made these
promotions under his discretionary powers.

Being a person of a Pakistan, I would like to comment on this decision, Its a bold and good decision. SC will take such decisions in future in the interest of the public of Pakistan and as well as in the large interest of country, we will fully support to the CJ and SC.

Why Suprem Court is waisting its time on this present corrupt govt, who is not listening to its any order, and not interested to implement its any order. Apparently President & his PM showing their attitude as if they are respecting Suprem Court, but in reality they are insulting Suprem Court, and trying to show that they are more powerful then Suprem Court. It is time for Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take dynamic immediate steps against this corrupt govt including president, prime minister, governor and some notorious ministers.

bold? good decision? corrupt government? what do you people know, sitting 24 hours a day in front of the ‘idiot box’ and believing whatever the media tells you? thats how far you guys see.. instead of demoting top level officials the supreme court and Chd Iftikhar should be motivating them.. we create such issues WITHIN ourselves and then we expect to deal with real issues like repaying IMF loans, water shortage etc.. it can not happen this way, the chief justice looked better getting his ass beat on the road since i believe he is making wrong use of his power..
